We all know its a recession and there are no jobs so how do you get past this initial barrier and get employment?
Start early, start now and apply for every job in site. Make sure you have a CV ready then apply online for any job you think might suit you, whether it be working for a catering company or on a summer camp there will be many options available to you and I recommend browsing the web for any openings. A lot of sites will ask you to submit a few forms and upload a CV and then your application gets processed and hopefully you hear back from the company in the future. Except you almost never do. My experience has taught me that hardly anyone will do more than acknowledge you application and to actually get employment you need to chase up your application by calling the company, preferably the HR or employment departments. Also from applying to many catering companies last year, I have found out that only this year do they get in touch about working for them by asking if I'm still interested in the work.
Once you have exhausted the list of online opportunities its time to take the traditional route of CV to a shop and asking to speak to the manager and hoping for the best. Be polite and courteous and your early application should put you in a good position to find something.
Happy hunting.
